Brad Pitt onnistui pari päivää sitten hymyilyttämään pikkuisen kyynisellä turinoinnillaan elokuvassa Killing Them Softly, jossa höpöteltiin jotenkin noin:
My friend, Jefferson's an American saint because he wrote the words, "All men are created equal." Words he clearly didn't believe, since he allowed his own children to live in slavery. He was a rich wine snob who was sick of paying taxes to the Brits. So yeah, he wrote some lovely words and aroused the rabble, and they went out and died for those words, while he sat back and drank his wine and fucked his slave girl. This guy wants to tell me we're living in a community. Don't make me laugh. I'm living in America, and in America, you're on your own. America's not a country. It's just a business. Now fucking pay me.
Tästä amerikkalaisuuden ytimen etsiskelystä muistui mieleen eräs toinen vähän tummasävyinen lyhyt läksytys tähtilipun edessä, eli suunvuoro Clintille ja elokuvana tietysti Unforgiven:
All right, I'm coming out. Any man I see out there, I'm gonna shoot him. Any sumbitch takes a shot at me, I'm not only gonna kill him, but I'm gonna kill his wife, all his friends, and burn his damn house down.
You better bury Ned right! Better not cut up, nor otherwise harm no whores...or I'll come back and kill every one of you sons of bitches.
